Basic video preservation hands-on training

This is an in-person workshop.

The often under-appreciated magnetic tape which has recorded our home videos, our favorite movies as a kid, educational programs, news broadcasts, and artworks of the last six decades faces many challenges to preservation. This workshop will be an introduction to video preservation practices. The objective is to acquaint students with the properties of magnetic tape, various formats and playback devices, as well as gain experience conducting physical condition and playback assessments. Upon completing this workshop, students will understand the challenges of video preservation and will be able to identify common problems.
