Why hire our Master of Museum Studies students?

MMSt students complete their internships in a recognized museum, gallery or related institution between their first and second years of study. Internships involve many different areas of museum practice including collections, curation, programming, exhibit development, and fundraising and development.

Sample roles Museum Studies students have successfully completed:

  • Development Officer
  • Digitization Coordinator
  • Education and Public Engagement Officer
  • Gallery Administrator
  • Interpretative Planner
  • Marketing and Communications Officer
  • Collections Intern

Time and duration

Internships run during the summer term from May to August. To ensure students meet the minimum 280 internship hours required, they can start any time between May and early July. This minimum of 280 hours is based on a 35-hour work week and averages out to approximately eight weeks.

Recruitment begins in January, and generally peaks in March, April, and May due to Young Canada Works timelines.

The Faculty of Information has an internal job board exclusively for students where employers are invited to post as early as January.
