Course Description
This course (INF2164H — UX Research and Design for Video Games) examines the particular roles of User Experience Design (UXD) and User Experience Research (UXR) in video games and the video games industry. The course specializes in video games as interactive interfaces, introduces core video game concepts, discusses the role of UX in the video game development process, and highlights how and when core UX research methods are applicable to this unique domain. Key trends in the video game industry will be illustrated with current examples. Throughout the course, students will practice video game analysis, heuristic evaluation of video games, as well as usability, appreciation, and challenge testing using industry-standard user research tools. Inclusivity, accessibility, and making video games for everyone will be a recurring theme that reflects the current state of the industry.
