This award was endowed by a donation from family and friends of the late Professor Auster. Awarded by the Council of the Faculty of Information Studies, this award is open to doctoral students in their dissertation research. Preference is given to students who have secured a title for their thesis and thesis committee. Two thirds of the total award will be granted as a scholarship to one student per year. The remaining portion of the award will be made available as a bursary for registered doctoral students demonstrating special financial need.
The value of this award is dependent on the annual income of the endowment.

- To be considered for the scholarship portion of this award, applicants must complete the Omnibus Awards Application during the open application period.
- To be considered for the bursary portion of this award, applicants must complete the Omnibus Awards Application as well as a Financial Need Assessment Form and submit to the Student Services Office by the deadline.
