Designing a Workflow for Managing Readings
In graduate school, the sheer number, type, and scope of readings can be overwhelming. Readings can accumulate rapidly with advisors, research groups, peers, courses, conferences, workshops, listservs, and social media providing resource after resource. Without an information management system in place, as the volume of readings increases, the more difficult it becomes to isolate and apply relevant work. Recognizing the value of a personal information management system, this workshop (1) introduces a suite of information management tools and (2) helps devise a workflow for organizing readings.
By the end of the workshop participants will:
- Compare various ‘literature mapping’ tools (e.g., ResearchRabbit, LitMaps)
- Create a Notion database to pinpoint the purpose, disciplinary focus, relevance, and usability of readings
- Experiment with Markdown-based, knowledge-building software Obsidian
Please download Notion and create a free personal Pro Education Plan. Please download Obsidian as well.
