Human-computer interaction and marginality

While technology can positively impact one’s life, it can also negatively affect communities that are not considered in the design process. During this workshop, students will analyze case studies together to understand cultural, historical, and political components of technology that might do harm to marginalized communities. Through this analysis, we will explore the mechanisms to consider while designing technology for marginalized communities.

In this workshop participants will:

  • Analyze case-studies excerpt from research papers
  • Learn how to identify key nuances of technology might harm a certain community
  • Explore design mechanisms to facilitate inclusive technology design
