Overview

Students caring for children are a hidden population in higher education that faces many unique challenges. In the last 5 years, there has been an increased interest in how academic libraries can develop new services and adapt existing ones to better serve students with caregiving responsibilities.

iSchool students with childcare responsibility are encouraged to attend and share their experiences and ideas!


Learning Outcomes

The learning outcome of the class is for you to:

    • Learn about students caring for children and the barriers they face in accessing library services.
    • Consider different approaches to making academic libraries more family friendly.
    • Compare methods of assessment for evaluating the impact and quality of family friendly initiatives.
    • Identify strategies and best practices for outreach and communications to students caring for children.
