Job Description
The Canadian Press is looking for a Content and Metadata Engineer to join our Content Operations team in a full-time permanent role located in Toronto. The successful candidate will make a major impact at a reputable and evolving company that offers a competitive salary, paid vacation, pension, health and dental benefits, and flexible hours in a hybrid/remote working environment.Overview of the Role:As a metadata specialist you will help incorporate state-of-the-art metadata practices into our newsroom operations. We are in the process of integrating a knowledge-management platform into our content production workflows and establishing a system of metadata governance and best practices. You will work closely with all departments that touch content (news, IT, sales and marketing) and help CP to optimize and operationalize its use of metadata to enhance our products and revenues.As a content analyst with digital supply-chain experience, you will monitor production systems and content feeds to ensure efficient delivery to customers.Responsibilities:Assist with the integration of the knowledge management system into news production workflowsEnsure that the CP wire and digital feeds to all business partners for articles, images, audio, video, and other digital assets are working properly. Work with clients to optimize and troubleshoot content delivery as neededDevelop the taxonomies and ontologies needed to model our metadata usage in stories, audio and video in English and FrenchMonitor and troubleshoot categorization and other metadata issues by running APIs and following content through the digital supply chainAnalyze news formats and standards in XML (NewsML-G2, Nitf, RSS) and JSON (NinJS)Analyze how each of our products could take optimal advantage of metadata in consultation with stakeholders in the newsroom and on the sales and marketing teamBuild and monitor dashboards related to tagging practices and metadata-driven content distributionPromote metadata awareness throughout the organization and conceive of ways to improve workflows and productsSkills and Experience:Experience with data analysis and data-feed transformationExperience building/managing taxonomiesExperience managing digital supply chains and data pipelinesFamiliarity with metadata standards and schemas such as Dublin Core, SKOS, etc.Knowledge of Ontologies, Linked data/RDF, semantic webKnowledge of exchange standards (XML/JSON)Familiarity with APIs and helper tools such as PostmanExcellent oral, and written communications skillsKnowledge of the news (or similar) industryExperience with a metadata/taxonomy management systemHttp programming experienceFrench language proficiency as assetPLEASE APPLY BY MARCH 31, 2023Committed to a maintaining a safe and healthy work environmentOffers of employment are conditional upon the candidate providing proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 by the time of start date.
