Job Description:

McMaster University Library is seeking a creative and collaborative leader to assume the position of Head, Access Services.

The Head, Access Services, provides leadership and vision for all components of the University Library’s research help, circulation, reserves, stack maintenance, and resources sharing across three locations. They design accessible, forward-looking, and user-centred services that advance the diverse teaching, learning and research needs of our user community. They take a lead role in the collection and analysis of services related data to support evidence-based decision making and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will:

• Provide leadership and vision for the University Library’s research help, circulation, stack maintenance, reserves and resource sharing services across three locations (Mills, Thode and Innis libraries).
• Responsible for the management, leadership, and development of a diverse work team.
• Maintain a high level of awareness of library service and user trends, monitor users’ needs and anticipate requirements for the implementation of new services.
• Promote effective communications between other Library Services units (Makerspace, Library Accessibility Services and Lyons New Media) and other library departments (Collections, Digital Experience, Research Collections, Maps, Campus Classroom Technologies, Teaching and Learning, Health Sciences Library, etc.).
• Develop relationships and liaise with university departments/faculties (UTS, Registrar, Student Accounts, faculty and TA’s in various departments, satellite campuses).
• Ensure Library Services statistics are collected, stored and shared.
• Develop procedures and draft policies that improve library services and promote excellent user satisfaction.
• Stay current with and explore emerging technologies; lead the implementation of technologies that enhance workflow productivity and enhance services.
• Chair or serve as a member on library and university committees, task forces and projects aligned with position responsibilities.

This is a full-time, continuing appointment, reporting to the Associate University Librarian, User Services and Community Engagement.

Qualifications:
• A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and information science or its equivalent.

Compensation:
It is anticipated that the appointment will be made at the rank of Librarian 3 or 4, with an annual salary range of $72,139.43 – $109,044.61; or $77,687.76 – $124,364.47. This position is included in the McMaster University Academic Librarians’ Association bargaining unit. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
