Job Title: Hart House Library Volunteer
Closing Date: Friday September 6, 2019

Hart House Library is seeking volunteers. As a volunteer at Hart House Library, you will play a vital role in the daily functioning and upkeep of the library. You will also have the unique opportunity to lead and participate in ongoing major projects that support the library’s goals and initiatives. Hart House library is a non-circulating library that operates mainly through volunteers. Come join one of the most unique and inspiring libraries at the University of Toronto and build your experience!

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Work under the direct supervision of the Hart House Library Curator
  • Shelve books and shelf read
  • Provide reference and readers’ advisory
  • May assist with preparation of special projects and events
  • Be a member of one or more of our executive committees

Examples of responsibilities include:

    • Suggesting acquisitions for the library
    • Participating in creating book displays and library exhibits
    • Contributing to social media content
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned


  • An interest in learning about libraries and library functions
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Familiarity with databases, searching, queries, and social networking applications is an asset
  • University of Toronto students preferred
