Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Research and Academics, the Solo Librarian will work as part of a team
delivering information services and supporting evidence-based practice in patient care, health
education and clinical research by conducting in-depth reference services and literature searches;
developing and teaching courses related to research and critical appraisal; and establishing
current awareness services. The Librarian provides clinical library services; engages in health
information literacy; supports and conducts research; markets and promotes the library’s services
and the collection staff, affiliated physicians, residents, students, patients and caregivers.

• Provides in-person reference services which involves interviewing, interpreting requirements, and
establishing level and detail of information needed
• Responsible for conducting expert literature searches and providing in depth reference services
and instruction
• Provides marketing and promotion of library services to clients and staff
• Actively engages in planning, collection development, special projects and best practice
improvement initiatives
• Using the integrated library system (ILS) loans materials and maintains/updates borrower accounts
• Arranges interlibrary loans for items not owned by the Library, and completes interlibrary loan
requests from other libraries through DOCLINE;
• Performs core library services such as cataloguing according to the National Library of Medicine
and Library of Congress classification standards;
• Prepares statistical supports of usage of Library resources and functions;
• Prepares and delivers education sessions to enhance information research skills and prepares and
disseminates online/electronic training materials and tools

• Participates on Hospital committees and councils
• Provides support and guidance for open access journal publication
• Supports an online learning management system
• Performs other duties as needed
Qualifications Required and Preferred
• Accredited Master’s degree in library/information sciences;
• Experience working in a health sciences library ;
• Experience in systematic literature searches;
• Proficient with biomedical databases such as PsycINFO, Medline and other electronic health
information resources;
• Advanced computer skills and experience with Docline
• Initiative, accountability, creativity and outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills

• An enthusiastic, energetic and engaging style that inspires and motivates others;
• Time management skills including planning, organizing and prioritizing work;
• Knowledge of intellectual property and copyright laws and other relevant legislation;
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and improvement of professional knowledge and
• Excellent problem-solving skills;
• Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills;
• Excellent customer service skills;
• Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this same standard.
• Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
