Position: PT Library Technician

Part time/temporary position for up to 24 hours per week until June 2019


PT library technician required in the Library Learning Commons of the George Brown College. Duties include circulation, reference, technical services and other tasks as required.



  • Circulation services: Check-in, Check-out, holds, renewals, fines, phone etc.
  • Assisting patrons with George Brown password reset, print card credit/debit and print release
  • Utilizing the college registration system (Banner) to verify student enrollment
  • Reference services in person, phone and online (AskOn) including assisting patrons with catalogue, electronic database searches and locating items on the shelf
  • Technical services such as book repair, item processing, cataloguing, inventory
  • Assisting with student orientation and library promotional activities
  • Additional duties as required


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Library and Information Technician diploma required
  • Experience in circulation preferably using the ILS system, SIRSI
  • Experience in searching research databases and providing reference
  • Experience in cataloguing will be an asset
  • Demonstrated strength in customer service skills and student support and excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates qualities that include strong problem solving skills, initiative, a proactive approach to duties, good time management, and a commitment to diversity
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team or independently
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Technical skills such as HTML, JavaScript, Adobe applications desirable
