Status: Full Time

Hours of Work: 35 hour/week, Monday to Friday

Campus: Fennell Campus

Pay Band:    F

Hourly rate: $26.18

Under the direction of the Director, Libraries & Learning, the Library Technician – Information Services & Collection Management assists Mohawk College’s diverse community by assisting them in searching and locating appropriate information. S/he assists with the maintenance of the library’s collection resources through acquisition, processing, cataloguing and ongoing maintenance.  The incumbent also participates in related library projects and initiatives towards the achievement of the Library’s strategic priorities.


The duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Assisting Mohawk’s diverse client group in searching and locating appropriate information using the reference interview to gain necessary information

  • Conducts reference interview in person, by telephone or online to help library users develop an appropriate search strategy
  • Provides transactional guidance to library users in the use of online catalogue, electronic databases, e-books and web-based resources
  • Responds to user’s technical questions about library computers, file management and printing

Assists in collection acquisition, access and maintenance functions; provides bibliographic verification and searching

  • Responsible for cataloguing library resources using RDA, MARC21, AACR2 and other library standards for all formats
  • Updating, editing and/or transfer cataloging records for new library resources
  • Maintain collection budget records and collection statistics
  • Update, edit, transfer records in Evergreen
  • Assist Collections Librarian with de-selection/weeding process and maintenance of authority files
  • Responsible for print, e journal and journal database subscriptions, including renewals and maintenance of MARC records
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Word; extensive experience using MS Excel

Participates in a variety of projects and tasks to achieve the Library’s strategic priorities as assigned by the Director

Oversees the library in the evening by acting as the sole person in charge as scheduled


  • A minimum two year post-secondary college diploma in Library and Information Techniques, or similar field; or equivalent.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years practical library experience required in information and collections services in an academic library environment

The successful candidate will also:

Experience in cataloguing functions and online information technologies is preferred
