Part-time (minimum 15 hrs/wk) contract position

Position Description
Ontario Colleges Library Service (OCLS) is accepting applications for a part-time contract Services
& Support Associate to support several of OCLS’s key services and initiatives. This position is a
3-month contract (approx. January 2019 to March 2019) for a minimum of 15 hours per week with the
possibility of extension. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the
position is filled. Hours and schedule will be determined in consultation with the successful
candidate; flexible hours can be negotiated.

Working closely with the Virtual Reference and Accessibility Associate and the OCLS Services team,
the successful candidate will provide support to the askON virtual reference service currently in
use by 12 college libraries as well as for the Accessible Content ePortal (ACE) service. This
position will also have the opportunity to work with other OCLS services and systems. As capacity
allows, special projects may be assigned.

Key Responsibilities
● Work closely with OCLS’s service teams, including askON, ACE, and other services and projects
as needed, providing exemplary customer service and support to Ontario’s 24 public college
● Communicate with college library staff and third party vendors and partners, monitor and
contribute to social media accounts, troubleshoot technical issues with library staff, and
undertake monthly statistical reporting
● Maintain up-to-date information and tools for library staff in askON’s virtual reference
● Provide support for the daily operations of the ACE service and act as a contact for college
library staff and third party partners
● Participate in special projects to enhance OCLS services such as the development of training
videos, the opportunity to develop and facilitate webinars for college library staff, and other
projects and tasks as assigned

Desired Qualifications
The qualifications listed below are highly desirable but not necessarily mandatory. Candidates are
invited to demonstrate how their skills, knowledge, and experience would best fit one of these
positions in their letter of application.

● A recognized degree from a library and information sciences program or a library technician
diploma. Students working towards an MLIS/LIT degree or diploma are also welcome to apply
● Demonstrated experience providing outstanding customer service

● Excellent oral and written communication skills
● Highly organized and self-motivated with the ability to prioritize work and adhere to
● Strong technical skills, advanced experience with MS Office, Google Suite, and the ability to
quickly learn new software and platforms
● Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities
● Attention to detail
● Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
● Demonstrated interest, experience, and/or coursework in reference services
● Experience providing virtual reference is an asset
