Job Description
  The Team
We are currently seeking a Research Librarian in our Ottawa office. Reporting to the Senior Library Services Manager in Toronto, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing research, training, and current awareness in the Ottawa office, and supporting national initiatives.
The Role
Ø Conduct high-level legal and business research, often on a tight deadline, synthesizing results for efficient lawyer, client and staff use
Ø Ensure lawyers are kept up-to-date on new developments through the delivery of curated current awareness and monitoring updates
Ø Design and deliver effective training for lawyers, students and staff on research methods, technologies and resources
Ø Work closely with the national library team to provide back up research and complete large research requests
Ø Market resources and services formally and informally through communications and presentations
Ø Assist in the evaluation and maintenance of cost-effective, lawyer-valued information services aligned with the strategic direction of the firm and practice areas
Ø Manage the local library collection, including physical collection maintenance
Ø Work with local and national colleagues on special projects to support the library’s strategic and business plans
Skills and Experience Required
You are a service-focused professional with a drive to innovate new ways to support our lawyers, clients, and colleagues. You embrace change, think creatively, and approach challenges with curiosity.
Ø Masters Degree in library science with a minimum 2 years of law library experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience within law libraries
Ø Combined knowledge of common and civil law research methods and resources an asset
Ø Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to take initiative while participating in collaborative decision making and team projects
Ø Familiarity with legal research techniques and strong knowledge of major legal and business resources, including Capital IQ, Lexis Quicklaw Advance, Practical Law, and Westlaw Edge
Ø Demonstrated presentation and teaching skills
Ø Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across our organization
Ø Thrive in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities while balancing a focus on detail and accuracy
