Making Libraries, Museums, and Gallery Spaces Accessible

Making Libraries, Museums, and Gallery Spaces Accessible

Join us for an engaging session where we will explore practical ways of making libraries, museums and gallery spaces accessible to persons with disabilities. We will start by exploring the principles of accessibility and Universal Design, and how they apply to the built environment. Following that, we will review specific technical standards in the context of assembly buildings used for storage and display or books, artifacts, and art. Participants will leave this session with a clear understanding of the principles and technical requirements needed to make these spaces accessible.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn how disability is defined and the human rights protections in place in Ontario
  • Appreciate the principles of Universal Design and how they apply to the built environment
  • Connect accessible built environment technical requirements to libraries, museums, and gallery spaces.
