2017-2018 OSAP & Provincial/Federal Student Loans – Start & End Dates, Payment of Tuition Fees, Interest-Free Status, Repayment Info Sessions

Submitted on Tuesday, July 18, 2017

The 2017-2018 OSAP application is available at: https://osap.gov.on.ca. Out-of-province Canadian students must apply for student loans through their home province

Per SGS:

  • Returning students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure they receive a notice of assessment before the start of classes.
  • Students who are receiving a funding package comprised of taxable and non-taxable income must report them on the OSAP application. Gross income reported on your OSAP application will be confirmed with CRA towards the end of the year and underreported income will result in an overpayment assessment which may restrict students from receiving future loans.
  • Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) and Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarships in Science & Technology (QEII) award holders should NOT report the award to OSAP. The University will be reporting this award to OSAP. Additional information is available from Enrolment Services.

Start & End Dates
The following “start” and “end” dates may come in handy when filling out OSAP and other financial aid applications/forms. These are posted under Important Dates/Academic Calendar.

Fall 2017 term:
First day of classes:  Monday, September 11th
Last day of exams:  Friday, December 15th

Winter 2018 term:
First day of classes:  Monday, January 8th
Last day of exams:  Friday, April 13th

The University’s Financial Aid office, located within Enrolment Services, has already been notified of these dates.

Payment of Tuition Fees at UofT
Immediately after students receive government funds, they must promptly pay fees. Funds are not automatically redirected to pay UofT Fees – even though you may have indicated this option on your OSAP application, this process is NOT in place at UofT.

If students do not receive any funding they are still responsible for paying their fees and must begin doing so as soon as they receive notification of ineligibility/refusal.

See the Student Accounts website for exact payment deadline dates to pay before interest starts. Also see the Guide to Reading Your Invoice & Invoice FAQ.

Maintain Interest-Free status with OSAP
Registered full-time students who a) have outstanding OSAP loans and b) are NOT receiving OSAP in the 2017-18 academic year, have between September 12th and September 30th to complete and validate a Continuation of Interest Free Status (Schedule 2) form in order to maintain interest-free status with previous loan(s). The form must be completed during the study period and cannot be backdated.

Non-OSAP students: Out of province students or students who’ve received part-time funding must use the Confirmation of Enrolment (Schedule 2) or their province/territory’s own form.

National Student Loan Service Centre Repayment Info Sessions Available Online
