2018 3-Minute Thesis Competition At University of Toronto

Registration for the University of Toronto’s Three-Minute Thesis Competition starts next week! – Updated: Registration now OPEN!

Registration for competitors will open at noon on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 via the links below. There are 25 competition spots for each division, and a wait list will also be generated for each division.

UofT 3MT – Divisions I & II – Humanities & Social Sciences

UofT 3MT – Division III – Physical Sciences

UofT 3MT – Division IV – Life Sciences

The event dates are:


  • Friday, March 16, 2:30-4:30 – Division IV – Life Sciences
  • Wednesday, March 21, 2:30-4:30 – Divisions I & II – Humanities & Social Sciences
  • March 23, 2:30-4:30 – Division III – Physical Sciences

Winners of each division will present in the university-wide competition

  • Tuesday, April 10, 6-8 p.m. – University of Toronto 3MT Finals Competition

Winners of the final will compete at the provincial competition.

  • April 19, 2018, 10 am -12 pm – Ontario Provincial 3MT Competition, York University

Registration is open to University of Toronto open to doctoral students who have achieved candidacy (i.e. completed all course requirements) by April 2018.

So you think you’ve got a thesis? You’ll have just three minutes and one power-point slide to present your doctoral research in an engaging, accessible and compelling way to a panel of non-specialist judges.
