Apply Now – Alumni Sponsored Student Grants and Awards

Please visit to the Faculty of Information website for more information regarding the following two Alumni sponsored student grants and awards, including application info and important deadlines:

1. FIAA Student Conference/Research Grants

The Faculty of Information Alumni Association (FIAA) offers grants to Master of Information (MI) and Master of Museum Studies (MMSt) students who:

Have been invited to a conference in order to present a paper or a poster session or participate as a speaker or a panelist,


Are conducting a clearly defined research project, supervised by a Faculty member as part of their studies at the iSchool.

Grants are to be used to subsidize the cost of attending the conference or to help defray research-related costs of conducting the research project. A committee of alumni volunteers will decide the grant amount awarded to each recipient, but no individual award will exceed $500. A student may receive only one grant during their program at the iSchool. Grant recipients will be acknowledged on the Faculty website.

Deadline for Fall 2017 grant applications: Friday, December 15, 2017

Note If you are applying for a grant in the Fall 2017 session, your conference/research activity must occur between September 1, 2017 and February 28, 2018.

Deadline for Winter 2018 grant applications: Saturday, April 15, 2018. – Extended Deadline
NOTE: If you are applying for a grant in the Winter 2018 session, your conference/research activity must occur between January 1, 2018 and August 31, 2018.

Reminder: Register With the UofT Safety Abroad Office
All students planning on participating in international U of T activity (gaining credit/research, funding or sanctioning) must fully register with the Safety Abroad Office prior to departure. Please begin the registration process at least 30 days before travel.

Note: Failure to comply with these procedures may result in withdrawal of funding, emergency support and/or academic credit.

2. FIAA Outstanding Student Contribution Award

The FIAA Outstanding Student Contribution Award is awarded to any student enrolled in the Master’s program who has made a significant all-around contribution to Faculty life in areas such as the following:

  • Student life
  • Activities of the MI Student Council, Museum Studies Graduate Students’ Association, and/or the iSchool Faculty Council, and their committees
  • The University of Toronto as a whole
  • Active participation in professional organizations, academic excellence, and publishing activity are also considered

The recipient of the FIAA Student Contribution Award will receive a framed citation and a cheque for $500.
