Orange Shirt Day info from the DSA

Emergency iSchool Day of Learning and Action in support of Orange Shirt Day, Mi’kmaq fishers, and #1492LandBackLane

SEPT. 30TH, 3-5 PM

In honour of Orange Shirt Day and in solidarity with the#S30 Strike, please join the Indigenous Solidarity Working Group of the Doctoral Student Association for an Emergency iSchool Solidarity Action in support of Orange Shirt Day, Sipekne’katik First Nation’s efforts to protect the rights of Mi’kmaq fishers, and #1492LandBackLane.

We invite you to drop in virtually on Zoom (passcode: 628099) for any length of time between 3pm-5pm on Wednesday, September 30th. Together we will support one another to:

 Share information about how to support Sipekne’katik First Nation and #1492LandBackLane

Contact (email, write, or call) government officials together using sample letters

Identify and amplify financial and non-financial support platforms for the various communities and groups involved in these situations

 If you are unable to join us during this time we encourage you to set aside time in your day to:

 -Consult this document for resources relating to each of these issues for learning and action

-Make a plan with short-term and long-term actions to support these communities. This can include identifying resources for self-education, setting up a recurring donation, or sharing information about these issues with your community via social media.

-Join the #S30Strike programming ongoing throughout the day.
