Why AI isn’t fit to make life-or-death pandemic decisions

The Guardian‘s Kenan Malik cites Faculty of Information Professor Brian Cantwell Smith as he makes the argument that “‘Following the science’ is a disingenuous policy because mathematical reckoning and human judgments are very different things“.

Smith’s book, The Promise of Artificial Intelligence: Reckoning and Judgment, argues that while AI can “reckon” well, it is nowhere near developing systems that are genuinely intelligent in the human sense.
