Teaching with primary sources for librarians and archivists

This is an in-person workshop.

This workshop is designed for those working in libraries and archives who are interested in teaching classes using primary sources. It is specifically targeted to those who want to create engaging classes for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students as well as community organizations and special interest groups. It will provide an introduction on how to design, create and teach classes using primary sources from your institution’s collections and includes:

  • Communicating with teachers and professors and setting learning outcomes for the class
  • Selecting appropriate types and amount of material
  • Introducing and discussing materials in an engaging manner
  • Creating hand-outs or hands-on exercise for students
