Purpose and Eligibility

Dr. Locke was the Chief Librarian of the Toronto Public Library from 1908 to 1937, and in fact helped establish not only the city’s library system but also the Library School at the University of Toronto. This bi-annual scholarship was established in 1940 by the Toronto Public Library Association and is awarded to a full-time student who has had previous experience working in a public library and who has a high academic standing.

This is a bi-annual award, awarded every second year (2022, 2024, 2026, etc.).

Award Value and Duration

Varying amounts. Award disbursements may be split across multiple terms depending on total value.

This award is non-renewable (one year only).

Students apply for this award using the Faculty of Information’s “In Course Award Application” form, (for continuing students who have already completed their first year of study).
