John Smart Memorial Scholarship for Social Justice and Democracy
Purpose and Eligibility
To be awarded to any Master of Information student in the Faculty of Information on the basis of demonstrated commitment to the study of information in the advancement of social justice and/or democracy in a Canadian context. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in the Archives and Records Management (ARM) concentration of the Master of Information program. Eligible students will: (1) demonstrate a commitment to the study of information in the advancement of social justice and/or democracy in a Canadian context; (2) demonstrate a commitment to archival studies, particularly archives as a participatory force in the advancement of social democratic values; (3) have previous work or volunteer experience with organizations advancing social justice issues; (4) have produced research papers, publications, artistic works or other products associated with social justice topics; (5) possesses an undergraduate degree with a specialization in healthcare, eeducation, racial discrimination, economic inequity, immigration or other topics aimed at changing Canadian soceity for the better, or; (6) has taken course(s) on related topics as above, or on social movements that work towards social change.
Award Value and Duration
Amount varies and is non-renewable.
