Why Hire our Bachelor of Information Students?

The Faculty of Information’s talented Bachelor of Information (BI) students take courses in UX design, data, information practices and computational reasoning as well as a full course preparing students to transition from classroom to workplace.

All BI students complete a summer “practicum” work session after their third year of study and before entering their final year at the Faculty of Information.

Sample roles BI Practicum students have successfully completed

  • Journey Research and Design Intern at Sun Life Canada
  • Technical Analyst at Canadian Tire
  • Digital Content Summer Student at Ontario Securities Commission
  • Product Design Intern at Zendesk

Timeline and duration

The minimum number of hours BI students can work for a practicum is 100. Many of them, however, work a full four months for their practicums. BI Students are available for summer ONLY work terms (May to August). The maximum work term length is four months.

BI students can be recruited for a summer work term anytime from September until June.

Shorter, project-based practicum work can be paid or unpaid.

Potential employers who are unsure about how suitable their project may be for BI practicum students can book a meeting with our Careers Team HERE [link] for a consultation.

BI Practicum employer expectations

The supervisor must have the capacity to onboard, supervise, and give feedback and mentorship to the student during the practicum

Compensation
