Course Description
This course (INF2322H – Film Preservation) builds on INF2311H Managing Audio-Visual Materials by providing a deeper exploration of film preservation. Students will study the theoretical underpinnings of film preservation through concepts and principles, while developing the technical knowledge and hands-on skills required to manage film collections. Major themes in the course will include the consideration of film as a physical object, its unique qualities as a medium, the practices necessary to ensure the object’s integrity, and the evolving place of an analogue format in a digital world. Each week will be structured around a lecture, followed by hands-on instruction and practical exercises.
