Course Description
This course (INF2240H – Political Economy of Information Policy) examines the various forms of economic, cultural, and social power that are embodied through policy and policymaking in the public and private domains. Particular emphasis is placed on the various forms of capital that are concentrated in the hands of decision makers, elected bodies, and policy audiences who play a formative role in the development of policy. The course focuses on the role of information practices in instrumentalizing and operationalizing policies and their attending objectives. It also examines how decision makers can be challenged through different modes of participation and intervention in policymaking processes.
This course can be used to fulfil the “Critical Perspectives” Professional Requirement.
