Bio
Kim Fernandes is a postdoctoral fellow in the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto. As a researcher, writer and educator, their work lies at the intersections of disability, data and technology. Fernandes is an affiliate at Data and Society, the Digital Inquiry, Speculation, Collaboration and Optimism (DISCO) Network and the Center for Information, Technology and Public Life. They also serve as the Managing Editor of Platypus, an interdisciplinary science studies blog. Their research has been supported by the Social Science Research Council and the Taraknath Das Foundation. Fernandes holds a joint PhD (with distinction) in Anthropology and Education from the University of Pennsylvania. They also have graduate degrees in International Education Policy from Harvard University and in Statistics, Measurement, Assessment and Research Technologies from the University of Pennsylvania. Fernandes earned their undergraduate degree in International Politics (Honors) from Georgetown University, and has prior experience in education, monitoring and evaluation, and policy.
