Bio

Shion Guha is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Information. From 2016 to 2021, he was Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Marquette University, where he helped develop the undergraduate and graduate data science programs.

Professor Guha received an MS degree from the Indian Statistical Institute (2010) and a PhD from Cornell University (2016). His work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, in the U.S., Facebook, the American Political Science Association, Northwestern Mutual, Parkview Health and more. His current research interests cut across human-computer interaction, data science, and public policy. He has been involved in the development of the field of Human-Centered Data Science, an intersectional research area that combines technical methodologies with interpretive inquiry in order to address biases and structural inequalities in social systems. Professor Guha is very interested in understanding how algorithmic decision-making processes are designed, implemented and evaluated in public services.

Professor Guha has a finite Erdos-Bacon-Sabbath number.
