A new book on collections management in museums, which highlights new approaches in the field, is now available to download for free. Co-edited by Faculty of Information Professor Cara Krmpotich and Professor Alice Stevenson of University College London, Collections Management as Critical Museum Practice was published last July.
“We created this edited volume to show the breadth of approaches to collections care within the cultural sector and to advocate for collections management as a practice that requires care for people and for objects,” said Krmpotich.
Drawing on both professors’ firsthand experience working in collections management and teaching graduate-level courses, the volume addresses a significant gap in the literature by highlighting different approaches to collections care and advocates for the recognition of collections management as a vital practice.
Among the contributors are several members of the Faculty of Information Museum Studies community, including sessional instructor Susan Maltby, visiting faculty Vasilike (Bessie) Argyropoulos, MMSt alum Tonya Sutherland-Stewart, MMSt and PhD alum Hannah Turner and iSkills mount-making instructor Devorah Romanek.
