Bio

Hiu-Fung Chung is a third-year PhD student and Vanier Scholar in the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto. His primary research focuses on the intersection of work, inequality, and technology within digital capitalism. His current project examines the social, cultural, and political implications of data-driven technologies in care work, with an emphasis on the use of AI in mental healthcare in East Asia. His academic work has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Convergence, China Perspectives, and Chinese Journal of Communication.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Hiu-Fung is passionate about documentary filmmaking. His latest co-directed project, Goodbye, Aberdeen, won the 2021-22 Eye Catcher Incubation Award from the Renaissance Foundation Hong Kong and was shortlisted for the CNEX Chinese Doc Forum 2022.
