Incidental and Ancillary Fees
Non-Academic Incidental Fees (or Incidental Fees) contribute to things like student societies, campus-based services, athletics and recreation facilities, and student health and dental plans. Many of these fees are compulsory, but you may be eligible to opt out of a few of them. Ancillary fees cover things like field-trip costs, or special equipment provided for coursework, as well as administrative costs such as transcript fees or library fines.
Other Costs of University
There are a number of other costs to factor into your budget – for example, the cost of books, educational supplies, food, and residence. International students should also factor in the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP). Find more about other costs of attending university.

Please review details on Tuition fees and refund schedule on the U of T Student Accounts office website.

Note: The Bachelor of Information program can only completed under fulltime (FT) status unless you need to be on a reduced course load under the advisement of your accessibility advisor.
In the event of a discrepancy between the posted tuition and fees, and your invoice, the information on your invoice takes precedence and is accurate. Tuition fees are subject to change every year. The amounts noted can be used as a reference for budgeting, but may not reflect the actual amount invoiced for a future academic year.
Summer
The BI program consists of five consecutive terms (Fall, Winter, Summer, Fall and Winter). Students are expected to be enrolled for the Summer term between Years 1 and 2 for 2 required courses. Students are charged per course fees during the summer term.
Please review details on the Tuition fees for Summer and refund schedule on the U of T Student Accounts office website.
Make a tuition payment
A student is only considered “registered” once they have made the minimum tuition payment. Students are able to enrol in courses without making a tuition payment first.
Course enrolment typically starts in late July, and the minimum payment is typically due in late August. To maintain your enrolment, tuition fees need to be received by the University before classes begin.
You must pay the minimum amount to register by the registration deadline each year (usually September 1 for Fall term, December 1 for Winter term and May 1 for Summer term).
The minimum payment to register for Fall and Winter is Arrears + 100% of Fall tuition fees. You can see your minimum amount to register, your invoice, and your account balance on ACORN.
Student Accounts has outlined the different options for how students can make tuition payments.
Deferring Tuition Payment (to a Later Date)
You are eligible for a tuition fee deferral (register without payment) if all of the conditions apply:
- you have paid for prior session fees,
- you have a confirmed funding of an amount that exceeds the minimum required payment for the current session (Fall term tuition fee total for Fall-Winter session or 50% of Summer tuition fee total for Summer session),
- you apply for a tuition fee deferral prior to your division’s defer or pay to register deadline.
There are online and manual deferral options depending on the type of funding.
If you are unable to defer directly on ACORN, you can email a screenshot/PDF of your Notice of Assessment to Student Services. Please screenshot the student funding screen, which contains details of the disbursement and the status of the application. This funding screen usually becomes available for students to view once an assessment has been made.
Review more information about Tuition Fee Deferral on the Student Accounts website.
International Tuition Fees Exemption
In certain circumstances, an international student may be exempted from paying international tuition fees and eligible to pay domestic tuition fees instead. Please review the eligibility criteria on the UofT Fees website.
Students who meet the eligibility criteria to be exempted should contact inquire.
