Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

What is the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit?

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit (EDIU) is part of the Dean’s office at the Faculty of Information. Its mandate is to support the Faculty of Information’s commitment to lead in the area of equity, diversity and inclusion by creating and fostering an accessible and inclusive environment, which empowers the participation and collaboration of all members of the community.

About the EDIU

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit at the Faculty of Information was established in June 2021, in response to a student report on diversity and inclusion experiences at the Faculty, released in September 2020. This report was written in collaboration by a number of student groups including the Diversity Working Group, the Accessibility Interests Working Group, Museum Professionals of Colour, ICWG, the Master of Information Student Council, and the Museum Studies Student Association.

The EDIU is mandated to provide support to all stakeholders within the Faculty, which includes students, staff and faculty. This unit, in collaboration with community members, both internal and external to the Faculty, aims to create an equitable, diverse and inclusive community where all members feel welcomed and can experience a sense of belonging.
