Bio
Inessa De Angelis is a PhD student at the Faculty of Information. Her research focuses on gender-based violence in politics and the political uses of social media and artificial intelligence. Specifically, Inessa’s research examines the gendered nature of online harassment faced by Canadian politicians, using statistical and computational methods. Inessa’s master’s thesis research, which was supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (CGS-M) and the Government of Ontario (OGS), examined the online harassment of Canadian women politicians, specifically when Tweeting about climate change and environmental policy. Furthermore, she is co-authoring a book about Leaders’ Debates in Canadian federal elections.
Inessa has ten years of experience working in federal and municipal Canadian politics. Additionally, she previously worked as a Research Assistant at the Pol Comm Tech Lab at the University of Ottawa and served on the steering committee for Equal Voice’s National Capital Region Branch. Inessa is passionate about getting more women involved in politics through her work and research.
