Course Description
This course examines the principles and practices of visual communication design. Students will develop a foundational understanding of visual perception, form, space, typography, colour, semiotics, visual rhetoric, and strategic visual communication. Considerations span cognitive science, social science, Gestalt psychology, graphic design, visual art, pop-culture, ethnography, and accessibility. This is a studio-based, mixed methods course with a heavy emphasis on learning through iterative exploration. Students are taught the principles that underlie visual communication, and develop their understanding and skill through weekly hands-on practice.
