Bio
Dr. Tao Wang is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto. He teaches courses in knowledge management, information systems, and data analytics. He has a strong interest in inquiry-based pedagogy and helps students turn what they learn into practical experience and deeper research. He is also working on projects that explore teaching empathy as a core competency in information systems design.
Dr. Wang’s research interests lie at the intersection of knowledge management and digital transformation, with a particular focus on the role of emotion, especially empathy. His work examines how organizations create, share, and govern knowledge as AI reshapes their work, and how empathy is expressed and received between humans and machines. Before academia, he worked at major advertising firms and spent eight years as an entrepreneur. He holds a Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from Simon Fraser University.
