Aging is not just personal, it is also societal.
On June 10, Faculty of Information Dean Javed Mostafa and Professor Matt Ratto explored one of the most trending interdisciplinary topics: aging in cities hosted by the School of Cities. Through flash presentations, they shared recent research on health data and how urban environments affect aging populations. Javed Mostafa discussed a series of research projects using MRI and CT machines to study brain degeneration and trauma, examining at a neurophysiological level how people process information. This includes studies where participants conducted Google searches while inside MRI machines to determine whether different search task types and the modality of search result presentation lead to differential neuro-physiological responses.
The event also featured a lively panel discussion moderated by Javed Mostafa, where Camellia Zakaria from the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation (IHPME) at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH), jointly appointed with the Faculty of Information, and Matt Ratto examined the use of data and information, and strategies for active aging in rapidly growing cities.
