Technology Loans

Technology and accessories are available for loan to Faculty of Information students, staff and faculty.

Items are loaned by TCard on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.

How to Borrow

  • Technology loan items are loaned by TCard on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability
  • Come to the Student Services Welcome Desk with your TCard
  • Technology loan items are only available to FOI students, staff, and faculty
  • Contact inquire.ischool@utoronto.ca with any questions

Loan Periods

  • If no loan period is mentioned in the list below, the item is a 24-hour loan
  • Other loan periods range from 24 hours to 3 days (72 hours) as listed below

How to Return/Overdue Fines

  • Overdue technology loan fines are $0.50 an hour
  • Check My Account for loan due dates to make sure to return items on time
  • Return all items to the Student Services Welcome Desk
  • Please DO NOT return items into any bookdrops as equipment damage may occur
  • As a courtesy to your fellow users, please return devices with at least 50% of the battery charged

Non-Faculty of Information patrons are not eligible to borrow technology. However, Robarts Library offers a selection of tech loan accessories such as chargers, cables, USB keys, mice, and laptop locks.

Submit an Equipment Request

Faculty of Information students can submit requests for equipment to be added to the Tech Loans collection for borrowing. Please contact inquire.ischool@utoronto.ca with a detailed description and link to the equipment item(s) with a reason for its usefulness.

Statement of Borrower Care and Responsibility

The standard of care is that which is reasonably expected from someone who borrows institutional equipment available and shared by many. Care will be taken to return all parts of equipment listed on the tags in undamaged state after borrowing item(s) by the allotted due date. While under the care of the borrower, item(s) must not be left unattended in public environments. Borrowers are responsible for the market cost of the item to repair in case of damages and/or replacement for missing/lost item(s). Reported damages and missing item(s) will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
