About the EDIU
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Unit (EDIU) at the Faculty of Information was established in June 2021, in response to the Student Report on diversity and inclusion experiences at the Faculty, released in September 2020. This report was written in collaboration by a number of student groups including DWG, AIWG, MPOC, ICWG, MISC, and MUSSA.
The EDIU is mandated to provide support to all stakeholders within the Faculty, which includes students, staff, and faculty. This unit, in collaboration with community members, both internal and external to the Faculty, aims to create an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community where all members feel welcomed and can experience a sense of belonging.
Key areas of service include:
Education and Training: Provide opportunities for community members to increase their knowledge and competencies around EDI principles, tools and strategies through workshops, events, and trainings.
Complaint resolution supports: Meet with individuals to listen and discuss options available for resolution assistance, including informal and formal complaints.
Community building and engagement: Connect and build relationships with various stakeholders in the Faculty through a number of different community building initiative.
