Sessional Dates and Deadlines

Spring/Summer Session 2018

May 1 First session, May-June  (F-section) of summer courses begins. F-section classes run Tuesday, May 1, 2018 to Saturday, June 16, 2018 (includes exams, if applicable)

Full session, May-August (Y-section) of summer courses. Y-section classes run Tuesday, May 1, 2018 to Saturday, July 28, 2018 (includes exams, if applicable)

May 4 Final date for registration for May session; after this date, a late registration fee will be assessed.
May 7 Final date to enrol in May-June (F) or May-August (Y) session courses.

Faculty of Information Deadline: Coursework must be completed and grades submitted for full-year and winter session courses.

May 11 Coursework must be completed and grades submitted for full-year and winter session courses (except for extended courses)

Note: Faculty of Information Deadline is May 7, 2018

May 16 Winter session grades available for viewing by students on ACORN/ROSI.
May 21 Victoria Day holiday (University closed)
May 25 Final date to drop May-June (F) section summer courses without academic penalty. Dropping courses after the deadline is not allowed. Please see Academic Regulations for more information.

Fall Session 2018

August 24 Recommended tuition fee payment deadline for students registering/starting their program in the Fall session to ensure payment is received by September 14th registration deadline and to avoid cancellation of registration and course enrolment. International students must make a payment by this date to ensure coverage by UHIP at the beginning of September.
August 31 Faculty of Information Deadline: Coursework must be completed and grades submitted for July-August (S) and May-August (Y) summer session courses.
September 1 Deadline to submit documentation to be reviewed by the Committee on Standing for Spring/Summer courses (May to August). See Course-related Regulations for details.
September 3 Labour Day (University closed)
September 4 Faculty of Information Orientation Day and General Assembly.
September 7 Coursework must be completed and grades submitted for July-August (S) and May-August (Y) summer session courses and extended courses

Note: Faculty of Information Deadline is August 31, 2018

September 10 First day of classes
September 12 Summer session grades available for viewing by students on ACORN
September 14 Registration deadline for students registering/starting their program in the Fall session (September to December); after this date a late registration fee will be assessed.

Minimum required payment due (unpaid fees from previous session(s) + 100% of current Fall tuition fee charges).

September 17 Final date to submit final doctoral theses to SGS to avoid fee charges for 2018-19.
September 24 Final date to add full-year (Y) and fall session (F) courses.
September 28 Final date to submit final doctoral theses for Fall Convocation.

Final date for receipt of degree recommendations and submission of any required theses for master’s degrees for Fall Convocation without fees being charged for the fall session.

September 30 Transfer Credit/Exemption application deadline (see Course-related regulations).

Payment deadline to avoid service charges on unpaid Fall session tuition and incidental fees. Monthly service charges will incur starting October 15. Exception: students who have successfully registered without payment based on a full funding package, major award or scholarship. See Student Accounts for details on registering without payment/fee deferrals.

November 5-9 Fall Reading Week

December 3 Faculty of Information application deadline for: CGS-M (SSHRC Master’s) Master’s Student Awards
December 15 Deadline to submit documentation to be reviewed by the Committee on Standing for fall session (F) courses (September to December).

January 11 Final date to add INF1005H Information Workshops  (Use ACORN – Within SGS Deadline, no form needed)

January 14 Registration deadline for students registering/starting their program in the Winter session (January to April); after this date a late registration fee will be assessed.

January 15 Faculty of Information application deadline for: OGS Incoming Doctoral Awards (includes Visa/International OGS Applicants)

Final date to submit doctoral theses without payment of incidental Winter session fees. See SGS footnotes for academic fees.

January 16 Fall session grades available for viewing by students on ACORN.
January 18 Final date for receipt of degree recommendations and submission of any required theses for March or June graduation for master’s students without fees being charged for the Winter session.

Final date for all students to request that their degrees be conferred in absentia in March.

Final date to submit final doctoral these for March convocation in absentia.

Fall dual registrants must be recommended for the master’s degree by this date to maintain their PhD registration.

Final date for receipt of degree recommendations and submission of any required theses for master’s degrees for June convocation.

Final date for submission of final doctoral thesis for students whose degrees are to be conferred at the June convocation.

Students dually registered in the winter session must be recommended for the master’s degree by this date to maintain their PhD registration.

April 19 Good Friday (University closed)
April 30 Payment deadline to avoid service charges on unpaid Fall/Winter session (September to April) tuition and incidental fees for all students who have successfully registered without payment based on a full funding package, major award or scholarship, TAship and/or sponsorship.  Monthly service charges will incur starting May 15.
