Building a static website with Jekyll and GitHub Pages

Building a static website with Jekyll and GitHub Pages

This workshop will help you create an entirely free, easy-to-maintain, preservation-friendly, secure website over which you have full control, such as a scholarly blog, project website, or online portfolio. This workshop will focus on making websites using Jekyll in a web hosting service GitHub Pages. If you are comfortable interacting with websites in a web browser, this lesson is for you. A basic understanding of HTML and/or Markdown as webpage authoring languages is welcome but not a must.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Create formatted page content with Markdown
  • Configure your project to build and serve pages on GitHub
  • Build a coherent site with multiple pages using the Jekyll framework
  • Customize the layout and style of the pages on your site
