Data Visualization in R: The Very (Very!) Basics

Data Visualization in R: The Very (Very!) Basics

“A picture is worth a thousand words,” but only if the picture is actually communicating the information you intend to share! This iSkills workshop will serve as an introduction to making data visualizations using R, while providing tips and resources for more effective data visualization in general.

By the end of this workshop, students will be able to:

  • Produce simple data visualizations in R using the ggplot2 package
  • Compare types of data visualizations and select better visualizations for different purposes
  • Evaluate data visualizations in terms of aesthetic, perceptual, and substantive qualities
  • Explore a selection of online resources and tools for future data visualization projects

Attendees should have R and RStudio downloaded on their computers.
