Experiencing history through museum programming and interpretation

Experiencing history through museum programming and interpretation

This workshop will focus on museum programming and interpretation in living history museums. Costumed interpretation is perhaps the most well-known example, but this can also include other programming, such as traditional craft workshops, garden and grounds interpretation, animal programs, and more.

Participants will:

  • Discover how programming and interpretation focused on experiencing history can give museum visitors a deeper understanding of heritage
  • Examine the definition of “living history” and how it applies to different types of museum programming
  •  Develop an idea for a program or interpretive display/exhibit/area etc. that would provide immersive learning for museum visitors

Instructor: Heather Adams, Curator, Cole Harbour Farmhouse Museum
