Job Description
The Thompson Rivers University Library is seeking 2 collaborative, learner-centred, and enthusiastic Research and Instruction Librarians for liaison work and to participate in and coordinate library outreach initiatives. These limited term contracts (full-time 2-year positions) require that the librarians be a strong presence in the campus community, stepping in to maintain relationships with a variety of disciplines’ faculty and students. The successful candidates will participate on liaison teams with librarian colleagues to engage students in the learning process by providing instruction sessions, workshops, and online guides and tutorials. They will also provide individual research assistance, including consultations, and participate in collection development.The successful candidates will also participate in maintaining and coordinating ongoing student engagement and outreach initiatives, including library involvement in campus orientations and open houses. While not expected to develop new directions for this work or new initiatives, exploring and proposing other student engagement activities can be considered if time permits.The successful candidates will join a committed team of library professionals in a newly renovated building, the House of Learning, and will be expected to be a full participant, along with the rest of the library team, in defining and achieving library goals. As a faculty member, the candidate will actively pursue professional and service activities. This position is at the Thompson Rivers University Kamloops Campus, situated on the traditional lands of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc within Secwépemc’ulucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc.Responsibilities:Liaison, Research Support, and InstructionPromote Library services and collections through liaison activities with a range of disciplines. These activities include engaging with liaison area faculty to provide information literacy instruction, and participating in collaborative collection development including selection and withdrawal.Create and maintain online instructional materials.Participate in library-wide planning and projects through service on teams, committees, task forces, and special projects as assigned.Assess user needs to develop and maintain relevant, high quality services and information resources.Provide in-depth research consultations and library instruction for liaison areas.Provide general research support through face-to-face and/or online reference tools.Teach general information literacy classes or assist other liaison librarians’ information literacy classes.Collaborate with other liaisons to support interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and collections.Student Success and Library Outreach:Ensure library presence at various campus orientations and open houses.Provide research support where needed at Cplul’kw’ten, the campus Indigenous Gathering Place.Prioritize, coordinate and maintain other student engagement and outreach events, such as library participation in campus and city Pride events and the library’s Stress-Free Zone during exams.Assist with training, oversight, and guidance of library technicians or students involved with library outreach initiatives.General responsibilitiesConsult closely and meet regularly with library colleagues and support them in their daily workand interaction with users.Engage in long-range planning, assessment, and promotion of library resources and services in coordination with other librarians and library administration.Participate with the University Librarian and others in the development of library policies, planning, and strategic initiatives; participate in library faculty governance.Continue professional growth and development to enhance skills and knowledge.Serve on relevant department, library, and University committees as appropriate.Position type and Salary:Limited term contract (24 months, full time), starting March 1, 2023Excellent benefits, including 40 days of vacation time and 20 days of professional development timeSalary range $64 375 – $77 059, depending on experience; please refer to section 11.5 of the Collective Agreement for salary scale placement details http://trufa.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/TRU_TRUFA_2019-2022-Final-June-23-2020.pdfQUALIFICATIONSRequired Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Library Science/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program, or equivalent, conferred prior to appointment.Demonstrated ability to engage in outreach to build, enhance, and sustain partnerships with the campus community.Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching information literacy to undergraduate and graduate students.Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.Ability to create training materials in a variety of formats and to conduct workshops.Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment.Preferred Qualifications:Experience planning events and managing multiple concurrent projects.Demonstrated interest in student success and student learning.Knowledge of pedagogy, instructional design, or education theory.Supervisory or team leadership experience.Thompson Rivers University is strongly committed to hiring based on merit with a focus on fostering diversity of thought within our community.
