Job Description

We have an amazing group of libraries collaborating across the BiblioCommons platform, and today, the potential is greater than we had even imagined. There’s tremendous power in libraries working collectively by sharing content, expertise, community, and code, and collaborating to broaden and deepen community engagement. BiblioCommons is looking for someone who thrives on the challenge of encouraging new libraries to join a fantastic group of libraries collaborating across the BiblioCommons platform. We’re not selling features. We’re selling the capacity of libraries to be so much more for their patrons, and for the library’s digital space to be as rich, valued, and inspiring as the great physical library spaces. We’re looking for a Partnership Development Representative that loves the thrill of the hunt. This role is responsible for generating new opportunities and initiating new relationships with potential clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Primarily, the Partnership Development Representative will help to build the network of libraries utilizing the BiblioCommons platform. Building the network will involve:
  • Identifying potential partners via research and conversations across libraries
  • Researching libraries and learning more about each library’s priorities and communities
  • Initiating conversations and building on-going relationships through phone calls and professional email communication (you can’t be shy!)
  • Networking over the phone and at industry events
  • Helping libraries understand how BiblioCommons tools might help support their priorities through conversations, demonstrations, and other information sharing
  • Generating new conversations from marketing-generated-leads including conferences, webinars
  • Bringing feedback from the field back to the product teams in order to continue to improve and enhance our services

Skills and Experience:

  • Library experience using the BiblioCommons software: Experience working with BiblioCore and BiblioWeb would be ideal, but more importantly, the ideal candidate understands how libraries work and the challenges libraries face.
  • Research: Strong research skills are a must as the team member will need to efficiently research key details about public libraries, their communities, and their changing environment on a weekly if not daily basis.
  • Strong listening skills: As we initiate discussions around libraries’ strategic goals and priorities, it’s vital to be able to listen to the community of librarians and to library and civic leaders of various backgrounds.
  • Amazing communication skills: In addition to being a good listener, we need a team member who naturally speaks and writes in a smart, friendly, straight-forward, authentic voice. This person must be comfortable on the phone and should be able to write engaging professional emails.
  • Creativity: In order to come up with solutions to challenges libraries face, the candidate needs to be creative. We want to help libraries see how their own strategic goals might be better achieved via a collaborative platform, and to help build the business case for local government managers and key decision makers that may be less familiar with the transformative power of digital opportunities.
  • Strong organizational skills: Plan to accurately document potential partnerships, track communications with libraries, and to provide internal, partnership-related forecasting reports.
  • Resilience: We need someone who will be persistent and patient and to develop and maintain relationships over time while remaining confident and positive.
  • Curiosity: We want to work with a team member who is excited by new technology-based opportunities—not just for libraries, but for education, and to society as a whole. Being curious about technology is a must-have and we expect our team members to be always reading, trying out new services, and investigating new solutions.
  • Super-savviness with software: Not only will this team member be well-educated on all our services and stay up to date on our ever-evolving suite of services, they will have or will quickly develop a good grasp on the full range of library software options on the market and available via open source. Additionally, we expect team members to keep their eyes and ears open for new library-related technology and software that is being developed outside of the library space.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: We definitely want a team member who can charge ahead individually. But equally important is the ability to recognize when and how to leverage the team around you.

As a member of the BiblioCommons Team, you will have:

In addition to the opportunity to work with a terrifically dedicated team that is committed to changing how library software impacts communities and is strongly devoted to the mission of public libraries, the position includes:

  • A competitive salary, plus benefits.
  • Company-wide bonus plan.
  • Generous health benefits package.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • An extra day off on your birthday.
  • Support through peer mentoring, career development plans, and tuition reimbursement opportunities.
  • An opportunity for professional growth where great work is recognized and rewarded.
  • A chance to put your experience to work to serve and support libraries worldwide.
  • The option to work remotely or from our office in Toronto.

BiblioCommons builds software that transforms the public library’s essential online services—their website, catalog, events calendar, and app—from transactions to integrated experiences that delight over 10 million library patrons.
