Who We AreThe Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper, or fraudulent practices, to foster fair, efficient and competitive capital markets, and confidence in the capital markets, to foster capital formation, and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy, operational, adjudication and enforcement work. The Digital Solutions Branch is responsible for system development and support services and is a key partner in this transformation. The Data Strategy and Governance Team supports the full spectrum of OSC employees’ data management needs, and partners with managers and directors in the Digital Solutions Branch to develop solutions that both streamline operations and consolidate efforts across all points of information technology.The OpportunityThe Data Governance Student will collaborate with the Data Governance Specialist to provide support in developing the OSC’s data governance program. The central focus of this placement will be the Open Data research project, which will involve gathering information on current trends in open data, in Canada and internationally, while considering the OSC’s current data holdings, legislative requirements and technological landscape. From this, creating recommendations for reimagining our Open Data process.Your summer placement experience will also involve providing support for daily activities, as required. You will have experience researching and analysing information, determining the most effective means to organize your time, document your results, and meet required goals.What do you need to be successful in this role?• You are a student currently enrolled in a post-secondary program, preferably in information studies, information policy or other related areas of study.• Completed courses in information management, metadata schemas and applications, and information law are considered an asset.• You are detail-oriented, organized with a high degree of accuracy, and able to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and adhere to deadlines with effective time management skills.• A self-starter with a willingness to learn, you can work independently or as part of a team.• You have demonstrated problem-solving and judgment capabilities.• You are proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Application InstructionsPlease include the file number and position title in your application.
