Job Description |
Mount Allison University Libraries and Archives invites applications from qualified candidates for a half-time STEM Librarian. This is a one-year term position with a desired start date of August 1, 2023. | Duties Reporting to the Dean of Libraries and Archives, the STEM Librarian will provide research, teaching, and learning support in the Sciences including Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics, and Interdisciplinary Health Studies. They will also have shared responsibility for supporting Psychology. As a member of the public services team, the incumbent will: 1) provide reference and research assistance during regular desk hours, by appointment, and as needed; 2) serve in a liaison role as needed providing support via teaching, research help, and collection development; 3) assist with management and organization of digital content; and 4) participate in collection care activities, including the planning and preparation for the R.P. Bell Library Revitalization Project. As a member of Library Council, the STEM Librarian will contribute to the professional discourse and planning related to the Libraries’ strategic and logistical goals. The successful candidate may also be assigned responsibilities in other areas befitting the Libraries’ priorities, dependent on the successful candidate’s strengths and expertise. Shift duties for reference service may include evenings and weekends. Required qualifications: • An MLIS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited library school; and • An undergraduate degree in the sciences • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Strong public service-centred philosophy • Ability to work well in a collegial environment Preferred qualifications: • A graduate degree in the sciences, particularly in Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Physics, or Health Sciences • Experience working in an academic library context This position is represented by the Mount Allison Faculty Association and includes opportunities for participation and involvement in scholarship, teaching, and service. This position requires primarily in-person service, with some remote work possible. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Librarian. Salary will be within the established range and commensurate with qualifications and experience. In 2023-2024, the full-time base salary for Assistant Librarian is $80,937.
