Job Description
The Muskoka Lakes Museum, in Port Carling Ontario, exists to collect, document, preserve, research, exhibit and interpret objects which illustrate the settlement and development of the Muskoka Lakes district. The Museum places emphasis on the boat building industry of the Muskoka Lakes.

The Museum serves the public by carrying out these functions and by its emphasis on regular programming and special events, publications, information services, educational programming and research facilities, welcoming over 2000 visitors between Victoria Day and Thanksgiving each year.

The Museum is supported by the Curator, our dedicated volunteers, Board of Directors, and summer students.

Job Description: Membership and Fundraising Coordinator

$18/hr, 37.5 hrs / week, May 13 – August 25 (15 weeks).

Hours: 9 am – 5 pm, Wednesdays – Sundays, as well as Canada Day. Occasional evenings. Subject to change.

The Muskoka Lakes Museum has a dedicated and growing base of approximately 300 members. Each year, the museum runs a membership campaign to engage our current members to renew, and to entice new membership purchases. The Museum also plans to hold 3 fundraisers this summer in order to support operating costs. The main objective for this position is the promotion of museum memberships, and the planning and execution of museum fundraisers.

– Visitor Services including: welcoming visitors and members, processing admission, promoting memberships and donations, stocking and managing the gift shop, and answering questions about specific galleries.

– Tracking membership renewals and following up with lapsed memberships by email, phone and mail

– Selling memberships

– Helping to prepare and disseminate communications to publicize museum events and fundraisers

– Preparing online exhibits for winter months

– Assisting with the development, organization, and planning of the museum’s fundraisers, including contacting vendors, third parties, guests, volunteers and event sponsors

– Leading tours and other educational activities for members and visitors

– Attending and assisting at special fundraising events

– Welcoming members and offering special tours

– Other duties as assigned by the Curator

Requirements:

– Are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible);

– Are legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);

– Are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment; and

– Are a high school, college, CEGEP or university student.

– Asset: Having / working toward a program in Advertising and Marketing, Project Management, Communications, Media, Tourism, Museum Studies, History, or a related field.

– Detail oriented and organized.

– Interest in and / or experience in event planning.

– Interest in and / or experience in marketing to the public.

– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, outgoing and comfortable with speaking and communicating with the public.

– Computer literacy with experience in Microsoft Office and some knowledge of social media and Canva.

– Standard First Aid at time of employment.
