Focus groups for International Teaching Assistants (TAs) and Course Instructors (CIs)

Submitted on Friday, January 31, 2020

Are you interested in shaping programming for incoming international graduate students at U of T? Come join a conversation to help inform the development of a Pre-Arrival Teaching e-Orientation Program for future teaching assistants and course instructors. Reflect upon your cultural, academic, and professional adjustments within U of T’s varied learning and teaching environments. This is a great leadership and service opportunity to support your peers in their transition to teaching environments at the university for the 2020-2021 academic year!

Eligibility: We are looking for both current 1st-year international graduate students AND international graduate students who have worked as  teaching assistants (TAs) and/or course instructors (CIs) at the University of Toronto.

Details: This 90-minute structured discussion will focus on your beliefs, experiences, and perceptions of cultural, academic and professional adjustments in U of T’s learning and teaching environments. It will be facilitated by two fellow graduate students. Refreshments and food will be provided in appreciation of your time. Participation in these focus groups is voluntary and you may refuse to participate in parts of the group conversation or may withdraw from the group chat at any time during the conversation without penalty. The information will be anonymized and used in aggregate to inform future programming.

Location: Conversations will take place at the St. George Campus, either at the Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation (4th floor of Robarts Library, 130 St. George St.) or the Centre for International Experience (Cumberland House, 33 St George St).

Deadline: Kindly complete the registration form by Friday, February 7, 2020. A confirmation to participate in a group conversation will be emailed directly to you by Monday, February 10.  Only those directly contacted will be invited to participate.

Please register on this page. We look forward to your feedback and insights!
