Gaming with Galey

Associate Professor Alan Galey, whose home field is textual studies and bibliography, has moved into the important and growing field of video game studies with the publication of his article, Behind the Scenes at ApertureScience.com: Portal and Its Paratexts, which appears in the online journal Games and Culture.

“This article is my attempt to answer the question ‘what can we see in a video game if we examine it through the eyes of a textual scholar trained in examining books and material texts as cultural artifacts?’” says Galey, adding that the Faculty of Information already has a strong presence in video game studies thanks to the research and teaching of its students and faculty.

Galey is also editing a five-article cluster on the topic “Video Games and Paratextuality,” which will appear in a regular issue and include his own article.
